European seas 88% of all of the fish species are threatened by overfishing

In European seas 88% of all of the fish species are threatened by overfishing. This alarming statistic was published by the IUCN, the International Union for conservation. This union has had experts examine fish stocks across Europe.

Overfishing is a major problem. The researchers from IUCN studied more than 1,200 fish species in Europe. The study found that any nine out of the ten species picked would be overfished. This is powerful news, when you find out that for many fish species there are no quotas. An example is the blue shark, there are now no restrictions on fishing, yet we do not fully know the impact we are having on this fish.
